Hello everyone, just wanted to give a quick update. Emily had a good day today! One of the chest tubes that drains fluid from the pleural space between the lungs and chest wall was removed! Her vital signs and lab results have not shown any spikes or swings, which is encouraging.
She is neurologically stable and they are performing portable CT scans to watch head and brain recovery. They are looking to lower her Mannitol dose in the next week, which is used to lower intracranial pressure in the head. When this pressure comes down, doctor's can decide to begin to "wake her up" from induced unconsciousness.
This is all positive news, Emily seems to be trending in the right direction however she still has a long way to go to recovery.
The donations have been pouring in to support the family's stay in Boston, which is really huge for them, to not have to worry about staying close to Emily. Right now the typical day for Kenny and Rita is to bounce between her ICU room and the small waiting room outside the department, then getting a few hours sleep at the hotel. Your Grubhub gift cards are also helping them order food easily so they have less stress to hunt down cafeteria food. So thank you all so much for your generosity, I will be bringing Kenny and Rita a fresh bunch of cards tomorrow.
If you want to donate to their hotel room, and would prefer to not use Venmo, you can reach out to serkut.iraz@libertyhotel.com to put funds towards their balance. Friends have had success with this.
The family is extremely grateful for the help and support, thank you all again for your generosity and thoughtfulness. I will post more when we have an update.
devastating news, rest in peace🕊️
